Lula da Silva: Real integration must transcend commerce

Caracas, Dec 08. ABN.- “A real integration transcends commerce,” stated this Tuesday the President of Brazil Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva during the opening ceremony of the 38th Summit of the Southern Common Market (Mercosur), taking place in Montevideo, Uruguay.

“A real integration includes civil society, as well as energy, environmental and natural potentials,” Lula added.

The Brazilian President pointed out that Mercosur has to promote a balanced integration between all its member countries.

Likewise, the President of Paraguay Fernando Lugo held that people’s causes cannot wait, making reference to the opinion of the Uruguayan Liberator Jose Gervasio Artigas.

“The regional integration issue was present during the elections in Uruguay and Paraguay, and in both of them integration prevailed,” Lugo added.

Finally, the Paraguayan President commented that the Mercosur should promote new ways of regional integration.
